Editing a Receptor

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for editing a receptor's details, understanding read-only mode, and using tenant overrides for name, description, colour, and sort order

Objective

This SOP outlines how to view and edit an existing receptor in EnviroAutomate. Receptors are shared across all organisations, so most fields are read-only for administrators. However, you can create overrides for specific fields to customise how receptors appear within your organisation.

Prerequisites

  • You must be logged in as an administrator

  • The receptor must already exist in the system

Key Steps

1. Navigate to the Receptor

  • Click "Receptors" in the left sidebar under the Scientific Settings section

  • Find the receptor you want to view or edit in the list

  • Click on the receptor row, or click the edit icon (pencil) in the Actions column

2. View Receptor Information

The Edit page displays the following fields (read-only for shared receptors):

  • Name - The name of the receptor

  • Matrix - The sampling matrix this receptor applies to

  • Group - The receptor group this receptor belongs to

  • Subgroup - The subgroup within the receptor group (if applicable)

  • Description - A description of the receptor

  • Report Colour - The colour used in investigation level tables and reports, shown as a colour swatch and hex code

  • Sort Order - The display order within the receptor group

3. Create Tenant Overrides

You can override specific field values for your organisation without changing the shared value:

  • Click the "Override" button next to the Name, Description, Report Colour, or Sort Order field

  • Enter your organisation's preferred value in the modal dialog

  • Save the override β€” the field will show a yellow "Overridden for your tenant" indicator

Overrides only affect how the receptor appears within your organisation β€” the shared value remains unchanged for other organisations.

4. View Audit Log (Optional)

  • Click the "Audit Log" button in the top-right corner to view the change history

Overridable Fields

The following fields can be overridden for your organisation:

  • Name - Customise the receptor name

  • Description - Customise the receptor description

  • Report Colour - Change the colour used in your organisation's investigation level tables and reports

  • Sort Order - Control the display order of this receptor for your organisation

Differences from the Create Page

  • Read-only mode - Most fields are read-only since receptors are shared across all organisations

  • Tenant overrides - Override buttons available for Name, Description, Report Colour, and Sort Order

  • Audit Log - Available on Edit, not on Create

Cautionary Notes

  • Receptors are shared across all organisations and cannot be directly edited

  • Tenant overrides only affect your organisation's view of the receptor

  • Overriding the Report Colour will change the colour used in your organisation's investigation level tables β€” choose a colour that is distinct from other receptors

  • If you need to change a field that cannot be overridden (e.g., Matrix, Group), contact support

Tips for Efficiency

  • Use the Report Colour override to match your organisation's preferred colour scheme in reports

  • Use the Name override to match your organisation's terminology for receptor descriptions

  • Use the Sort Order override to control how receptors are ordered in your site receptor selections

  • Use the Audit Log to track changes to receptor details
