Objective

View the analytes configured in EnviroAutomate and customise how they appear for your organisation. Analytes represent individual chemical compounds (e.g., Benzene, Toluene, Benzo(a)pyrene) and are assigned to analyte groups. They are shared across all organisations and cannot be directly edited, but you can override specific fields for your organisation.

Prerequisites

  • You must be logged in as a Tenant Admin.

  • Navigate to Scientific Settings > Analytes in the sidebar.

The Analytes List

The list page displays a table of all analytes. You can search by name, alias, or description using the search bar at the top of the page.

Viewing Analyte Details

Click on any analyte row to open its detail page. All fields are displayed as read-only:

Analyte Information

  • Name — the full name of the analyte (e.g., "Benzene").

  • CAS Registry Number — the Chemical Abstract Service Registry Number that uniquely identifies the compound (e.g., "71-43-2").

  • Alias — an optional alternative or abbreviated name for the analyte.

  • Sort Order — controls the display order relative to other analytes within the same group. Higher numbers display first.

  • Analyte Group — the group this analyte belongs to (e.g., "BTEXN", "PAH").

  • Matrix — the environmental matrix this analyte applies to (e.g., Soil, Groundwater).

  • Concentration Type — the type of concentration measurement.

  • Unit of Measure — the unit used for reporting results (e.g., mg/kg, µg/L).

  • Surrogate — indicates whether this is a surrogate compound used for quality assurance.

  • Description — a description of the analyte.

Overriding Fields for Your Organisation

Although you cannot edit analytes directly, you can override certain fields so they display differently within your organisation. The platform-wide value remains unchanged for other organisations.

Fields You Can Override

  • Name — customise the analyte name to match your organisation's conventions.

  • Alias — set an organisation-specific alternative name.

  • Sort Order — control the display order of this analyte within its group for your organisation.

All other fields (CAS Registry Number, Analyte Group, Matrix, Concentration Type, Unit of Measure, Surrogate, Description) cannot be overridden.

How to Create an Override

  1. Open the analyte detail page.

  2. Click the Override button next to the field you want to customise (Name, Alias, or Sort Order).

  3. A dialog appears showing the Original Value (the platform-wide value) and a field for your New Value.

  4. Enter your organisation's preferred value and click Save.

  5. The field will now show a yellow highlight and an "Overridden for your tenant" indicator.

How to Remove an Override

  1. Click the Override button on a field that has been overridden.

  2. In the dialog, click Remove Override.

  3. The field will revert to the platform-wide value.

Audit Log

Click the Audit Log button in the top-right corner of the detail page to view the change history for the analyte.

Important Notes

  • Analytes are shared across all organisations and are read-only. You cannot create, edit, or delete them.

  • Overrides only affect how the analyte appears within your organisation — other organisations are not affected.

  • If you need a new analyte created or changes to non-overridable fields (such as CAS Registry Number, Matrix, or Analyte Group), contact support.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Use the Name or Alias override if your organisation uses different naming conventions for certain compounds.

  • Use the Sort Order override to control how analytes are ordered within their group in reports and data displays.

  • Use the search bar on the list page to quickly find analytes by name, alias, or description.
